Prof. Dr. Julian Ananiev was born in 1982 in the city of Sofia. He graduated in the Medical Faculty of the Trakian University, Stara Zagora in 2007. In February 2008 won a competition for a PhD student in general and clinical pathology at the same faculty with supervisor Prof. Dr. Maya Galabova.
He defended a PhD thesis entitled “Factors determining the development and prognosis of gastric carcinoma” in June 2011, as in the same year he became an assistant at the same department.
Once he acquired specialty in “General and clinical pathology,” in 2013, Dr. Ananiev won a competition for academic positions “chief assistant” and from October 2014 holds the academic title “Associate Professor” in the same scientific field.
The interests of Dr. Ananiev are primarily in the areas of gastrointestinal pathology, dermatopathology and molecular pathology. He is actively working on the problems of cellular and molecular factors involved in oncogenesis, the study of some genetic polymorphisms and rare presentation of clinical and morphological cases. He is an author and co-author in over 50 scientific publications in Bulgarian and international scientific journals, has 55 active participations in scientific forums, including those in Germany, France, Britain, China and South Korea.
Dr. Ananiev is a member of the European Society of Pathology, European Association for the Study of the Liver, the European Network on gastrointestinal pathology.
