Dr. Svetoslav Yosifov Chernin was born on 08 April 1963 in the village of Debnevo, Lovech District. He completed his secondary education and was awarded a gold medal in Unified Secondary Polytechnic School “Vasil Kolarov”, town of Varshets in 1981. He graduated in Medicine from Medical Academy of Sofia in 1990. He acquired specialist competences in Surgery in 1999. In 2012, he acquired professional qualification in Health Management in the Academy of Economics, town of Svishtov. In August 2014, he began specializing in Vascular Surgery in the Clinic of Vascular Surgery and Angiology at Military Medical Academy, Sofia.
Dr. Svetoslav Chernin began his medical career as a traumatologist in Multi-Profile Hospital for Active Treatment, town Etropole. Later he worked in ambulatory surgery in the town of Varshets until 2005 and after that he worked in the Department of Surgery in Multi-Profile Hospital for Active Treatment “Dr. Stamen Iliev”, Montana.
He worked in the Clinic of Vascular Surgery and Angiology at Military Medical Academy, Sofia from August 2008 to April 2016. He worked in the Department of Surgery in Multi-Profile Hospital for Active Treatment, Botevgrad. He has been working in the Clinic of General, Abdominal and Vascular Surgery – Medical Institute of the Ministry of Interior, Sofia since October 2016.
Dr. Svetoslav Chernin was a traumatologist-surgeon in the first Bulgarian military contingent in the UN peacekeeping mission in Cambodia from May 1992 to August 1993.
Dr. Svetoslav Chernin held the position of surgeon and head of the surgical team in the NATO mission in Afghanistan. He was employed, with temporary interruptions of employment, in a Spanish Military and Field Hospital in Herat, in a French Military and Field Hospital in Kabul and in an Afghan Military and Field Hospital in Kandahar from August 2007 to December 2013. Dr. Svetoslav Chernin has performed more than 180 surgical interventions in the military hospitals in Afghanistan and he has managed more than 400 surgical teams. Dr. Svetoslav Chernin received awards for his work from the management of the French Military and Field Hospital in Kabul, the French Defence Health Service (Service de santé des armées) and NATO Joint Forces Command – South.
Dr. Svetoslav Chernin speaks English, French and Russian. He carried out a study on the AIDS therapeutic options in 1997.
He is interested in general and reconstructive surgery, gunshot wounds, vascular surgery, aesthetic surgery, dermatologic surgery, dermatologic oncology and, in particular, treatment of skin tumours in the areas of the torso and the head.
During his professional career, Dr. Svetoslav Chernin was the Doctor of the Year in his district in 2002. He received awards four times from the Minister of Defence (the last one received on 6 May 2017) and once from the Minister of Health (in 2013).
